I really liked the rough-hewn look of the wood after it was chiseled. I wanted to design something that incorporated that look someday, and came up with the idea of a stool that could be made by simply cutting a log of wood. Most people think of a stool as circular and ordinary, and I thought this would put a spotlight on the rough-hewn texture. The effect was further enhanced by smoothing the sides and painting them in an industrial-looking grey; it is the result of combining the industrial and craft aspects of the design into a single leg.
